The aquaculture industry in Murihiku Southland will be powered by local people and businesses.
Businesses, education institutions and relevant agencies are working together to raise awareness of the broad range of opportunities across the industry. While technology and automation will play an essential role, technology still needs a skilled workforce.

The Southland Aquaculture Workforce Plan 2025-2028 will build early momentum for aquaculture workforce development by focusing on three priorities:
Raising awareness
Building and promoting pathways
Laying the foundation for the future workforce
Our approach aligns with the Aquaculture NZ Workforce Action Plan.
We’re not just doing it better. We’re doing it right - for our people, our planet, and the generations to come.
